Hellwig Park Makeover Nearing Completion....

In late March, NVSC executed a significant makeover project at George Hellwig Park beginning with the re-turfing of Field7 and construction to make Fields5/6 into a single  artificial Turf Field (will be called Field6).  The project is nearing completion with a projected opening date within the next 2 weeks.    This effort represents years of NVSC fundraising via hosted tournaments, camps, etc.  Thanks to PWC Department of Parks, Recreation, and Tourism Director Seth Hendler-Voss and his staff of facility and design engineers and PWC Coles Supervisor Vega for their continued support during the entire process from the design through construction.

Both fields represent state-of-the-art turf products and underlayment pads and sets a new standard for turf fields in the DMV area.  The design and product selection of the fields was under the direction of NVSC, led by Leading Design and Development Sports (LDD Sports) in Lovettsville, VA.    Base construction and turf installation was conducted by GTR Turf in Fredericksburg, VA.  The turf product is a dense, slit-film fiber construction by Shaw that has the highest face weight in the industry to provide solid footing for the athletes.  The turf is laid over a Brock Industries pad to provide longevity to the turf and added safety to the players.  NVSC thanks the complete design and construction team of GTR Turf, Ben and Simon Laverdure, LDD Sports Ryan Teeter and Matt Vetter, and Brock Industries Ronnie Pascale for their efforts in working with the club for the overall design and construction.

From NVSC Executive Director, Bill Gregory, "These fields represent a huge step forward in providing quality training and match play facilities for NVSC players.  The decision for the products and the design sets the bar high for any new fields coming online in Northern Virginia.  A lot of thanks goes to our design and construction team; their experience was the key in managing this project.  Each of these firms should be considered in any future turf field in the area."

NVSC Technical Director Han Etienne echoed these thoughts, "I visited a number of turf fields with Bill during this process, and this product is the best; I am very excited looking ahead for our players to have the best training facilities in the area".

See you at the (new) pitch.
