What is the Super Y-league?
The Super Y-League is a professionalized system that is the first step for developing youth soccer players in North America. Affiliated with US Soccer and partnered with US Club Soccer, the league is designed for talented youth players destined for professional or international careers. Northern Virginia Royals and Majestics Super Y teams benefit from the same commitment to excellence that characterizes our professional team; it is an essential step to a youth player’s “Path to the Pros.”
Which Clubs compete in the Super Y-League?
Over 100 clubs throughout North America compete annually for a Continental Championship. This year, the Royals, Majestics, and NOVA FC will compete in the South Atlantic Division. The clubs are as follows: Alpharetta (GA), Atlanta Fire (GA), Cobb (GA),Triangle FC (NC), Richmond Kickers (VA), Hampton Roads Piranhas (VA), Twin City (NC) and SC Fredericksburg (VA). Our teams sometimes compete in the Mid Atlantic Division which consists for clubs in Maryland, Delaware, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and New York.
When does the Super Y-League season run?
The season consists of approximately 8 - 12 games. The majority of games are played during the summer from June to August, with the North American Finals being held every November. In 2010, the Northern Virginia U14, U15, U16, and U17 Royals, U13 NOVA FC Boys, and Northern Virginia U14, and U15 Majestics and U16 NOVA FC Girls advanced to the North American Finals.
What are the age brackets for the Super Y-League?
There will be teams from U13 through U16 for both boys and girls. The Super Y-League uses the same age brackets defined by birth date as the USYSA (Aug 1 to July 31). The age bracket you currently participate in with your club would be the appropriate age bracket for tryouts. Players U17- U19 will play on a Super 20 team.
How do I register for tryouts?
E-mail royalsyleague@novafc.org for the Royals Super Y League teams and majesticsyleague@novafc.org for the Majestics Super Y League teams. Preliminary tryouts begin in January and final tryouts are in February. If there are additional spaces for available players, additional tryouts may occur. If you are interested in a tryout for one of the teams, please send your name to the e-mail listed above. There is a $50 registration fee that you pay to participate in all tryouts.
How many players will be selected for each Super Y-League team?
Depending on the quality of each tryout group, 16 - 26 players will be selected. The players will compete for the 18-player roster that will be selected for each game day. These selections fill the most competitive 18-man roster and while still allowing players to take some time off during the summer months for vacations. This summer league provides a competitive training environment for all players.
What is the commitment?
Training will start at the beginning of June and continue through the first week in August. Ideally, practices will be at least twice a week, but based upon age of team and league schedule, will be at the discretion of the coach.
What if Y-League conflicts with the club team?
By design, the program is not to compete with the club teams, but rather complement them. In the case of a conflict, the player will be encouraged to go to their respective club’s activity; however, the final decision lies with the player and parent.
Where will the teams train and play home games?
Both training and home games will primarily take place in Fairfax or Prince William County; however, other facilities and fields may be used as necessary.
Who will coach and train the teams?
Northern Virginia Soccer will choose high level coaches from throughout the region and players will be trained by guest trainers during the season.
What uniforms will the Super Y-League teams use?
Super Y-League uniforms are included in the player’s fees. Each player will receive a uniform kit.
