If you are interested in refereeing for NVSC, but are not yet certified as a USSF Soccer Referee, please visit the State Referee Website at www.vadcsoccerref.com.
Click on the "Online Registration" link on the right hand side of the page. Within this process you will need to register with the National Office, and the second step will allow you to register for a clinic. When searching for a clinic to attend, we are in the North Region, and you are looking for the New Referee Type Clinic.
There are two different grades of referee that you can become certified at. Those are listed below:
1. Grade 8 - This clinic requires 20 hours of classroom instruction, so it is held over a course of a few days, or even over several weeknights. Once you complete this course and pass the certification test you are ready to act as a Center Referee, or Assistant Referee within the recommended assigning guidelines set forth by US Soccer.
2. Grade 9 - this clinic requires class time as well. Once you complete this course and pass the certification test you are ready to act as an Assistant Referee primarily, but may be moved to the Center Referee position on the younger age groups within the Recreational/House level of soccer as you become more comfortable out on the field.
If you have any questions throughout this process, please contact the State Office directly at mdcvasrp@erols.com.
Once you have attended the Certification Clinic and passed the test you will need to obtain the Official US Soccer Referee Uniform (as listed on www.ussoccer.com).
You will also need to contact me at nvscrefassignor@novasc.org to get placed on the email and mail distribution lists. That will ensure that you receive vital information about upcoming referee events as well as be updated on the process for getting assignments, officiating matches, etc.
A local contact that can help you with obtaining the uniform and any additional accessories, is Badger Sports. Their website is www.badger-sports.com. You can contact them through the email address or any contact numbers on their website. You can also browse their catalogs by downloading them from their website.
The assigning guidelines that US Soccer has set forth stipulates that a certified referee can only officiate a match in which they are at least 2 years older than the age group of the teams that are playing the assigned match. We sometimes deviate from this guideline within the Recreational/House League level, however it is strictly adhered to within the Travel League level.
We look forward to having you working with us out on the pitch!!!!
