The U10 and U12 Recreational Tournaments

Twice a year, NVSC schedules an end of season tournament for our U10 and U12 recreational players.  This tournament brings together the four Districts, in one location to compete in divisional play.  Teams will be matched up with opponents that have similar records from the current season.

The U10 portion will be held at Valley View Park and the U12 portion will play at Hellwig Park.

Depending on the number of teams each season, the number of divisions can vary but are typically between 4 and 6 divisions for both boys and girls. Trophies are awarded to first and second place teams within each division and participation medals are awarded for all other teams.

Over the past years we have had great success with this tournament and have received wonderful reviews from players, parents and coaches alike.  As with many of the activities within our club, much of this could not be accomplished without your support.  Many volunteers give some of their time during the day to ensure the tournament proceeds as planned and most of all to ensure the players have a wonderful experience.  Your help is not only needed, it is also greatly appreciated.

If you are interested in volunteering to help during the tournament, please let your coach know.  As the time for the tournament gets closer, the Age Group Commissioners will be asking the coaches for volunteers.

The Richard Habib Memorial U12 Recreational Tournament

Richard Habib

It was a sad day Oct 3rd, 2015; a long time member of our club, volunteer and referee had passed away.  Richard Habib was known by many in our club as a coach, mentor, referee, friend - he had made a lasting impression on so many lives through his love for the game.  As Richard had done so many times before, he was officiating for our club.  During the game he became ill and could not continue.  Richard had suffered a heart attack and later passed away at Prince William hospital.

Richard had been a volunteer with our club for as long as many of us can remember.   He had not only coached several teams over the years, he had officiated games as well as making time to mentor several of our younger referees.  It is apparent that if it had something to do with soccer, Richard was involved.

To say that Richard was one of a kind would be an undeniable understatement to all who interacted with him.  His continuous generosity, humor, wit, and the kindness he shared with those around him exist as only a few examples of the incredible person, father, and friend he was.

The NVSC Executive board has decided to name our recreational tournament in memory of Richard.  They felt that associating this bi-annual event with Richard would be an appropriate means of memorializing his commitment to our club, youth soccer and his joy for the game.
