NVSC is pleased to announce a Concussion Safety Program that will provide FREE Baseline Concussion Testing for all NVSC Recreational and Travel players who are at least 10 years of age. We are offering the ImPACT (Immediate Post-Concussion and Cognitive Testing) system which is used by the NFL, NHL, and other professional sports organizations.

Detailed information about the program, including how to take your FREE baseline concussion test is available on the NVSC website (http://www.novasc.org/concussion/index_E.html). This link will also direct you to information regarding “What to do if a Concussion is Suspected", to include signs and symptoms, treatment, and medication evaluation.

So first step is to go to the Concussion Safety and Information section on our website (this is located off of the home page and the direct link is above).  Read the material located there and follow the instructions for the Free Baseline testing.  Then if concussion symtoms occur you have that baseline to refer to when you visit the doctor.  More information is on the Concussion Safety and Information page for post concussion treatment.

Recreational Rates:

U4 - U6 Recreational Soccer Fee is $85.00 (includes uniform)

U7 - U12 Recreational Soccer Fee is $85.00 (no uniform included)

U13 - U19 Recreational Soccer Fee is $90.00 (no uniform included)

LATE FEE STARTS ON MARCH 7th, 2013, SIGN UP BEFORE THE EXTRA $15.00 LATE FEE GOES INTO EFFECT.

NVSC offers three district locations to play soccer.  Hellwig District, Ben Lomond District and the newest Valley View District.  Hellwig and Ben Lomond has age groups U4 - U19, Valley View has age groups U4 - U12.  If you are playing U13 - U19 in the Fall 2012 you must select the Hellwig District or Ben Lomond District.

Uniforms:

If your player HAS the correct, current uniform and it fits, you do not need to buy a new uniform, unless stated below.  Please refer to the current uniform pictures available on the Recreational page of the NVSC website. This is the 6th season with the same uniform.

• u4-u6 - uniform is included in the registration fee; no ordering required
• u7-u19 - uniform kit is $27 and includes 1-blue jersey; 1-white jersey, shorts, and socks; you must order, and pay for, the uniform when registering if you want a new kit.

Uniform guidance:

• If your son/daughter is playing U7 (first season) you need to purchase a uniform during registration. 
• If your son/daughter is playing U8 through U19 for the first time with NVSC you need to purchase a uniform during registration.
• If your son or daughter played in the Fall 2011, Spring 2012 or Fall 2012, and the uniform still fits, you do not need to purchase a uniform.
• If you have a current uniform without jersey numbers, and your son/daughter is registering to play in u13/14 or older, you need to purchase a new kit. Players in u13 and above require numbers on their jerseys.
• For u13-u19 Returning players to the same team (from Fall 2012) - you do not need to purchase a new uniform. Anyone returning from previous seasons and still has both jerseys (correct uniform), or players requesting a different team for Fall 2012, must purchase a new uniform IF there is duplicate number on the roster. This can be done separately from registration, once the team rosters for the Fall are established. 
• If your son or daughter has outgrown their jersey you will have the option to purchase a uniform during registration.

NVSC Jr. Royals 97 and NVSC Jr. Royals 98 teams will be playing two friendlies against teams from the Jockey Club Rosario Argentina.  The friendlies will be played on March 25th, 2013 at 5:30pm and 7:00pm at the new turf field at Hellwig Park, field 8.  Come out and watch some international youth soccer matches.

March 19, 2013, Stanford, CA – Marie Schweitzer, coach of the Northern Virginia Soccer Club Majestics,has won Positive Coaching Alliance’s coveted Double-Goal Coach Award presented by Liberty Mutual Insurance for her positive impact on youth athletes.

The award – named for coaches who strive to win while pursuing the more important goal of teaching life lessons through sports – carries a $250 prize, a trophy and mention within the websites and newsletters of Positive Coaching Alliance (www.PositiveCoach.org) and the Liberty Mutual Insurance Responsible Sports program (ResponsibleSports.com).

“Marie helps youth athletes win on and off the field,” said Jim Thompson, founder and CEO of Positive Coaching Alliance (PCA) and author of eight books on youth sports, including The Power of Double-Goal Coaching. “By creating a positive, character-building youth sports experience, and serving as a Double-Goal Coach, Marie helps youth develop into better athletes and better people.”

Schweitzer, who also administers the youth academy for the National Women’s Soccer League’s Washington Spirit, teaches life lessons about the value of hard work.“I always tell the kids in training session to work hard and have fun,” Schweitzer said. “If you have fun it doesn’t even feel like you’re working hard, because you love what you’re doing. Then, I relate that emphasis on effort to their school work or to their future jobs.”

Schweitzer’s approach embodies the shared values that are central to Liberty Mutual Insurance and PCA, which also have partnered to help youth sports coaches and parents through the Liberty Mutual Insurance Responsible Sports Program Powered by Positive Coaching Alliance.

“This prestigious award celebrates coaches who are doing the right thing, by promoting the fundamental ideals of community through positive mentoring,” said Julie Brassard, Liberty Mutual Insurance manager of sponsorships.  “We applaud coaches like Marie Schweitzer for effectively using sports to teach valuable life lessons to our youth.”

Founded in 2007, the program serves as a means to highlight the positive impact that everyday, responsible actions can have on our youth. The program provides resources for parents and coaches at ResponsibleSports.com to help children reap the full benefits of playing a team sport.  The online community incorporates podcasts, videos, and best practices on youth sports topics that provide practical, real-world advice.  Parents and coaches also can complete guides on positive sports mentoring that offer best practices for handling challenging sports scenarios.

NVSC wants to thank all of our NVSC Members that dined at All American Steakhouse in Lake Ridge, VA back in Oct. and also All American Steakhouse for running the fundraiser.  NVSC raised over $500.00 that will go towards helping recreational players play in the upcoming spring season with scholarships.
