Posted week of 20 Nov 2011

The team worked very hard during the practices leading up to the tournament and came together as a close-knit team.  After a slow start in the first game, we finished strong--undefeated the first day.  We were seeded 1st place among 14 teams.  In the first game on Sunday, our goalie stopped a penalty kick to help seal the win.  In the championship game we found ourselves down 1-0 with about 3 minutes left in the game.  A great shot took us into an overtime shoot-out.  With our goalie’s help we won 3-2.

Ben Lomond U10 Boys were Finalists

The U10 Boys from Ben Lomond got a great start to the tournament after battling their way through Beltway traffic to arrive just in time for the game. The boys won their first game 5 - 1. Next up, a Saturday afternoon game with the temperature in the 90's and the turf fields heating up the soles of their shoes. A hard fought game resulted in a 1-1 draw. Going in to their final division game the boys needed not only to win, but to win by at least two goals to make the championship game. They left it all on the field and came away with a 3-1 win! The boys were off to the championship game and despite a valiant effort came up a bit short, falling 4-2, but everyone enjoyed the tournament experience.
